Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Mohammad Kaif said that India captain Shreyas Iyer must be thinking about the bowling reserves and waiting for Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya to return after a high-scoring T20I series against West Indies. The inexperienced Indian bowling unit, led by Arshdeep Singh, gave away over 200 runs in three successive matches in the series, which eventually ended in a 2-2 draw as well.

“Mayank Yadav can become a good bowler in the future. Prince Yadav is a skillful bowler; he has the pace and has the yorker as well. But it is too early to judge. The problem right now is that you don’t show patience with anyone; you will have to show patience. If you have brought in a new bowler, you should persist with him. You are not persisting with Kuldeep right now, he is playing one match and then being dropped,” Mohammad Kaif said on Cricbuzz.
“We have not been able to find backups. If we prepare a list, there might not be too many names. When Iyer goes back to his room, he must be thinking that when will Hardik return, when will Bumrah return? It is a good thing that Bhuvneshwar Kumar has made his comeback because we have not been able to find many bowlers recently,” he further added.

After a successful debut ODI series recently, Naman Dhir has showcased his ability in the T20 format as well at the international level as well.

“I think he has shown his skill with the bat, the graph is going up in that regard. Whenever he comes to bat for the Mumbai Indians, he makes a crucial contribution and also plays match-winning innings. So, I believe that he is doing his job with the bat. Because there is the impact player rule, players like him don’t get the chance with the ball, and the ball does not always turn at the Wankhede. Also, they already have an option available in Will Jacks,” Mohammad Kaif said.
“But if he can bowl with control on flat pitches like he has done this series, the Mumbai Indians ownership will be thinking that he can bowl as well, so we should back him by bowling in the nets and in practice. We don’t have the luxury of someone who can finish the innings, and give 5-6 overs of off-spin. If he bowls more, he will develop,” he concluded.
