Ahead of India’s tour of New Zealand, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is seemingly not in the selectors’ scheme of things for ODIs now as well. However, he also stated that he wouldn’t rule out his chances of returning to the ODI setup. However, Bhuvneshwar has been picked in the Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against New Zealand as well.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “I agree with you that it seems like that because there was a chance to keep him in the ODI setup on the New Zealand tour. If not in the first three, then in the last two matches, as your Test players are leaving. You would have seen him in the five T20Is also by then.”
“However, you have not kept him. It means the thought process has become very clear. It’s apparent that you are looking at him only from a T20I perspective. Although the current indications are that we are not looking at Bhuvi from an ODI perspective, I am personally convinced that if he does well in T20Is, I am not going to rule that out,” he further added.

However, Aakash Chopra also added that the selectors’ decision not to pick Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the ODI series against New Zealand is understandable as well.
“You will have to look at it from the selectors’ perspective. Bhuvi doesn’t play one-dayers. He is not playing in the Vijay Hazare and Ranji Trophy. It means he is not playing 50-over cricket at all. It’s also possible that he is played in T20Is now, and if he does well in those five matches, you can draft him in the team in New Zealand, and even if you don’t, you can play him against Sri Lanka and then Zimbabwe,” he concluded.
