Former India cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara said that the New Zealand conditions would suit veteran pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s skills. He has been picked in the India squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series during the New Zealand tour as well.

“Based on the conditions, he has the skill to swing the ball. If the ball does not swing in New Zealand, where else will it? So the conditions are ideal for him. He can extract it well off the surface with the new ball. If you ask this to anyone, they will definitely agree,” he said on Star Sports’ show ‘Out or Not Out’.

“There are no seaming conditions in the IPL. The wickets are flat. But for two years, if you are bowling at the top and the death, the toughest phases, he has the experience to understand the conditions and get the best out of it. He has never been in question. I am so happy he has gotten this chance. For so many years, you don’t notice them till you actually do. He is that kind of a bowler. The performances are consistent,” he shared.

Cheteshwar Pujara also shared his opinion on which spinner should start for India in the New Zealand T20Is and he named Varun Chakaravarthy over Kuldeep Yadav.

“In T20, not all New Zealand batters have played Varun. He has that mystery. Kuldeep tends to feel the pressure more. He bowls well where the boundaries are big. I feel there will be some seam and swing, and in such conditions where there is no deviation off the pitch, Varun’s strength is bounce, which will sit well with the batters. They can play him. So there, a wrist-spinner with a different trajectory comes into play. I am sure that every team, especially foreign players, will always have a question as to how to tackle Kuldeep. I feel Kuldeep will add another dimension to the team, especially against New Zealand in those conditions,” he concluded.
