Veteran India pacer Mohammad Shami said that he is not thinking about making a comeback to the Indian team. He also added that his focus instead was on working on his fitness and bowling as well. He also suggested that the return would happen if it was in his destiny.

Shami said during a Sports Tak interview: “Na pehle thi, na aaj hai (It wasn’t there before, and it isn’t there today). I focus on the process and my game. I don’t focus on long-term goals; I always focus on what’s next. If it is in my destiny, I will definitely play, and if it’s not, I’m still playing anyway. It is not necessary to think about India every moment. Just keep working on your fitness, skills, and performances; the rest is in God’s hands.”

“I have never done that before (picking up the phone and calling the selectors), I am not going to do it today, and I won’t do it in the future. If you feel that my fitness and performance are worthy, then definitely select me. If you feel they are not, give the chance to someone better than me. But the country should win. I have no jealousy, anger, or resentment towards anyone,” he further added.

Mohammad Shami also opened up about questions being raised over his being rested for Bengal’s recently concluded match against Services as well. He added that the call was based on the conditions, as the team needed batting depth.
“These people don’t care about the pitch conditions, behaviour, bounce, or carry. Some people just want to focus on useless things. It doesn’t make any difference to me. I am concerned about my team’s demands, situations, state-level matches, how can we strengthen our batting or add a spinner to win this match? We play with that planning. I am not going to play as a batsman on this wicket,” he concluded.
