Brook arrived at the crease after Ben Duckett was dismissed for 29 in the 16th over. The England captain initially took time to settle, managing just two runs from his first six deliveries. He then focused on rotating the strike against Dunith Wellalage and Dilshan Madushanka before launching an attack on Kamindu Mendis.

Brook struck two sixes in the 24th over, including an impressive inside-out shot over extra cover. He continued his aggressive approach against Janith Liyanage, collecting a four and a six in the 26th over.

After reaching his half-century in 43 balls, Harry Brook shifted gears against Madushanka, hitting two boundaries and a six in the 30th over to help complete a century partnership with Joe Root. He subsequently attacked Eshan Malinga and Dasun Shanaka with powerful pulls, lofted drives and innovative strokes.

The England skipper brought up his century off 74 deliveries with a scoop against Asitha Fernando in the 39th over. Following Root’s dismissal for 69, Brook intensified his assault, smashing 20 runs off Shanaka in the 41st over before continuing to punish Sri Lanka’s bowlers.

He reached 150 with a reverse scoop against Fernando, while Will Jacks added further pressure from the other end. Brook then survived a crucial moment when Sri Lanka dropped him on 185 off the final delivery of the 49th over.
