Former India cricketer Amit Mishra recalled an interesting incident with current Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir during his playing days. Mishra was recently appointed spin bowling coach of the Delhi Capitals (DC) for IPL 2027 as well. On a podcast with former India cricketer Aakash Chopra, he shared how he had a fight with Gautam Gambhir on the field while playing a domestic match as well.

“There was a game between Delhi and Haryana. I got one player out. Before that, he played a cross shot, and Gautam was batting at the other end. We spoke a bit in between, and I told him to be quiet. I asked him what is your problem if I am getting a few wickets. He told me to shut up and bowl. I got angry, and we exchanged words,” he said.

“After the match was over, we went to the hotel, and I went to eat. Gambhir called me and asked what I was doing. I told him nothing. He asked to go for dinner. I was like you were fighting just a while back. I was also angry, so I told him I had already eaten. He then told me not to get angry and said let’s go for cold coffee,” he further added. “So he is like that on the ground, but if you are his friend, he will come to you later. People think he is like that, but it is actually not like that.”

However, Amit Mishra also shared one quality of Gautam Gambhir that he liked a lot. He said that despite being from a well-to-do background, Gambhir never showed off or let anyone around him feel inferior as well.
“Gautam had one good thing in him. He never showed that he was from a well-to-do family. That is why he is my friend. My first car was an Alto, and he sat in it with me. He used to have a BMW, but he would come with me in my Alto for practice. He never let me or anyone feel that he was from a well-to-do family,” he concluded.
