Former India spinner Murali Kartik has applauded India for winning from a virtually lost position in the second T20I against New Zealand. He added that players taking responsibility in crunch situations is a sign of a good team.

During a discussion on Sony Sports, Kartik said, “It’s not necessary that everyone should do it in every match. A team’s sign is who puts their hand up in a difficult situation and says they would do it. That’s the most important thing. That makes a team, and that was seen today. At 112/6, it was a situation where the match had gone. Mitchell Santner bowled an incredible spell. Everyone contributed well for New Zealand.”

“Winning the match from there would surprise them. At times, there are moments in a series that take you totally far. It remains to be seen if New Zealand retain their self-belief after this. India showed their self-belief. It doesn’t mean that India didn’t make mistakes today, but when you can win even after making mistakes, your self-confidence increases immensely,” Kartik added.

In the same discussion, Murali Kartik shared that India had an uphill task in the last five overs.

“63 or 64 (68) were required in the last five overs, and it seemed like the foot had to be put on the accelerator and hard even on the turn. You couldn’t have slowed down. When you can bat like this at such a moment, especially Tilak Varma, the way he timed the ball and the shots he played. The massive six he hit off Nathan Smith’s bowling to clinch that over, because the job became easier for you with that, it was an incredible knock. To win the match from 112/6 – hats off. It shows they have a never-say-die attitude,” Kartik concluded.
