Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants could be preparing for a player trade ahead of the 20th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis and left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan reportedly involved in the discussions. According to a report in Sportstar, Lucknow could offer Mohsin to Punjab in exchange for Stoinis as both franchises look to strengthen their squads for IPL 2027.

The Punjab management reportedly considers Mohsin an attractive option, provided the fast bowler remains fit and available. Punjab acquired Marcus Stoinis for Rs 11 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in November 2024. The franchise outbid Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings to secure his services, while his former team, Lucknow Super Giants, decided against exercising its Right to Match (RTM) option.

Stoinis had an inconsistent first season with Punjab, scoring 160 runs in 11 innings at an average of 26.67 and an impressive strike rate of 186. He registered a highest score of 44 not out and claimed just one wicket across nine bowling innings.

However, the Australian all-rounder produced better numbers in IPL 2026. He accumulated 216 runs in 13 matches at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 180, including one half-century and 11 sixes. His highest score was an unbeaten 62.

Marcus Stoinis also picked up two wickets in four bowling innings, although his economy rate stood at 12.51. His most memorable performance came against Rajasthan Royals, when he smashed an unbeaten 62 off just 22 deliveries, including six sixes.

Meanwhile, Mohsin Khan could provide Punjab with a valuable left-arm pace option. Lucknow signed the Uttar Pradesh bowler for Rs 20 lakh at the IPL 2022 mega auction after his stint with Mumbai Indians, where he did not get an opportunity to play.

Mohsin made an immediate impact in his debut season for LSG, claiming 14 wickets in nine matches at an outstanding average of 14 and an economy rate of 5.97. His best figures of 4/16 came against Delhi Capitals, helping Lucknow secure a six-run victory. With a bowling strike rate of 14.14, Mohsin emerged as one of the standout young fast bowlers of IPL 2022. His potential could make him an attractive addition to Punjab’s bowling attack if the reported trade materialises.
