New Zealand have suffered another injury setback during their ongoing five-match ODI series against India, with wicketkeeper-batter Devon Conway ruled out of the remaining matches after sustaining a concussion during a training session at Eden Park. The incident occurred on Tuesday when Conway collided with fast bowler Matt Henry while both players were attempting to take a catch during fielding practice.

Although Henry has since cleared his concussion assessment, Conway has not recovered sufficiently to continue in the series. The latest setback adds to New Zealand’s growing injury concerns, with several first-choice players struggling with fitness issues during India’s ongoing tour.
Left-handed batter Nick Kelly, who was initially selected for the fourth and fifth ODIs, has been called up earlier than planned. The 30-year-old will join the squad in Wellington as Conway’s replacement.

Conway had already missed the series opener in Auckland after undergoing an initial concussion assessment. Tim Seifert replaced him in the playing XI and scored 38 runs as New Zealand were bowled out for 185. India eventually secured a five-wicket victory in the rain-affected encounter.

Seifert was originally selected for the final two ODIs before being added to the squad for the opening three matches as well. New Zealand’s fitness problems began during the preceding T20I series, which India won 3-2. All-rounder Rachin Ravindra, who has been dealing with a right shoulder issue, and Mark Chapman, sidelined by a hamstring injury, have both been ruled out of the entire series.
The injury concerns have also affected the New Zealand A setup ahead of the final unofficial Test against India A.

Simon Keene, Ben Lister and Fraser Sheat will miss the upcoming fixture because of their respective injuries. Keene suffered a grade-two tear in his left hamstring, while Sheat sustained an injury to his left side during the second unofficial Test. Lister is also unavailable due to a side injury.
Keene and Sheat are expected to return to domestic cricket within the next three to four weeks, adding to New Zealand’s list of players working towards regaining full fitness.
