India’s long-pending white-ball tour of Bangladesh could finally receive a fresh opportunity in January 2027, with discussions reportedly underway to accommodate the six-match assignment. The proposed series includes three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three T20 Internationals (T20Is), although its confirmation remains subject to scheduling adjustments and approval from the Indian government.

According to a report in India Today, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially announced the revised schedule. However, finding room for all six matches could prove challenging given India’s packed international calendar.

Zimbabwe are scheduled to tour India for three ODIs between January 3 and 9, while the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia is set to begin on January 21. Consequently, the BCCI will need to carefully manage the available window if the Bangladesh tour is to go ahead.

The original tour was scheduled to take place in August 2025, with the opening ODI planned for August 17. However, in July 2025, the BCCI and BCB mutually agreed to postpone the assignment to September 2026, officially citing international commitments and scheduling convenience.

The decision also came amid strained diplomatic relations between the neighbouring countries. Political developments following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in August 2024 created uncertainty around bilateral sporting engagements.

Tensions increased further ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup when Bangladesh declined to travel to India and requested that its matches be shifted to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns. The International Cricket Council rejected the request after independent assessments found no credible security threat.

The proposed September 2026 window also failed to materialise, with India instead hosting Afghanistan for a three-match T20I series.

With Bangladesh’s political landscape having changed, there is renewed optimism surrounding the bilateral relationship. BCB chief Tamim Iqbal is reportedly keen to improve ties with the BCCI, potentially paving the way for the long-awaited tour to finally take place in January 2027.
