Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta feels third umpires should be more involved in cricket matches. In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), the on-field umpires have already made a few glaring mistakes which have hugely affected the games.

In the recent IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium (Uppal, Hyderabad), on-field umpires failed to call a no-ball after CSK pacer Shardul Thakur delivered a ball which was well above the waist, but the on-field umpires failed to spot it. In the end, the decision proved to be critical as SRH lost the match by a meagre four runs.

Along with Williamson, SRH players were stunned by that decision. In the captain’s report, SRH managers pointed out that no-ball incident.

In another game between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) at Eden Gardens (Kolkata), KXIP pacer Andrew Tye’s first delivery was called a no-ball while the replay showed his foot was well inside the crease.

In the post-match show with ESPNCricinfo, 40-year-old former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta reacted on Tye’s wrong no-ball decision.

He commented on that, “A no ball given which wasn’t a no ball. The Third umpire can tell the on-field umpire that it wasn’t a no ball.”

Deep also pointed out that the third umpires should be involved more in the game which will reduce the blatant wrong decisions that could affect in the game.

He said on that, “Involve third umpires more. Let umpires sort out the decisions among themselves. 50-50 chances are okay, but blatant no ball, third umpires should be involved.”

Former Australian fast-bowler Shaun Tait remarked that as an ‘ordinary’ umpiring as he quoted, “In KXIP match, Andrew Tye’s first ball was given a no-ball, which didn’t look like one.”

27-year-old Australian all-rounder and the former KXIP player James Faulkner claimed, “I like the rules to be changed to take help from the umpire. Other day, AJ Tye’s first ball was given a no ball.”
