During the 29th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders’ Andre Russell bagged a golden duck on his 30th birthday.
After Dinesh Karthik won the toss and put the opposition in to bat, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 175-4 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. Their innings was powered by captain Kohli’s 33rd IPL half-century, without which they wouldn’t have reached this target.
Russell, who registered bowling figures of 3-0-31-3 on his birthday, failed to contribute with the bat as he got out on the first ball that he faced. Russell came in to bat up to the order, at No. 5 in the 17th over.
On his first delivery, he pulled a rising Mohammad Siraj delivery only to sky it up in the air. Quinton de Kock, who was keeping wickets, ran back to cover a fair amount of distance and eventually grab the catch as KKR lost wickets on consecutive deliveries.
