Team India Takes Huge Lead In The Latest ICC Rankings

Team India under the leadership of Virat Kohli has stretched their lead for the numero uno position to 13 points over second-ranked South Africa. In its annual update, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has removed series results from 2014-15 while the results from the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons are weighted at 50 percent.

Indian test team has consolidated their top spot in latest ICC Test Ranking after the world cricket body’s annual update. After India, South Africa and Australia are the next two nations on the table. India has extended their lead from four points to 13 points over second-placed South Africa, who have lost five points to reach an overall total of 112 points. Australia, who are currently missing their stalwarts Steve Smith and David Warner, is ranked at the third position with 106 points after they gained four points post the annual update.

Australia has retained their third position after it was taken by New Zealand after the cut-off date of April 3. While India and South Africa have earned themselves $1 million and $ 500,000 respectively for maintaining their ranks, Australia is set to get $200,000 after ICC’s latest update. While England is ranked fifth with 98 points in the rankings, Sri Lanka is the next in the ranking with 94 points. Pakistan and Bangladesh being at the seventh and eighth spot respectively which has resulted in West Indies going down to the ninth position for the first time ever in the Test cricket history.

The table will see two more teams as the Afghanistan and Ireland teams will soon be making their debuts in the longest format of the game. While Afghanistan will play against India in Bengaluru from 14-18 June 2018, Ireland will take on Pakistan in Malahide, Dublin, from 11 to 15 May 2018.
