During the 36th match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) at Hyderabad, Delhi Daredevils’ Amit Mishra beguiled Alex Hales to break the opening partnership of the home team.
After Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bat, Delhi Daredevils scored 163-5 in their allotted quota of 20 overs. At one point in time, they looked set to cross the 180-run mark. However, the home team’s bowlers didn’t let that happen and restricted the Daredevils to an achievable target.
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s openers enjoyed a successful powerplay, which was culminated by Hales and Shikhar Dhawan hitting 27 runs off an Avesh Khan over. One the field was spread out, the hosts’ run rate dropped which was followed by the demise of Hales.
It happened on the final delivery of the ninth over when Mishra pitched a leg-break delivery on the leg stump. The ball spun across Hales to not just beat his defence but also hit the wickets. Hales ended up scoring an impressive 45 (31) with the help of three fours and three sixes but failed to cope up against Mishra’s experience.
