Ajinkya Rahane, who is the captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR), has been fined ₹12 lakh as his team maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2018 game against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede stadium, on Sunday (May 13).
On Sunday night, the Rahane-led team completely outplayed the defending champions Mumbai Indians by seven wickets. A lot of credit for that memorable win goes to the opener Jos Buttler who played a mind-blowing knock of 94* and struck his fifth consecutive fifty in the tournament.

The IPL release read, “Rajasthan Royals Captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL match against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 13. As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Mr. Rahane was fined ₹12 lakh.”
In a close fought match, intelligent bowling by Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes followed by Jos Buttler’s 53-ball 94 helped RR to outclass MI by seven wickets.
Last month, Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, was also fined with ₹12 lakh after his team failed to bowl their overs within the stipulated time against Chennai Super Kings at the Chinnaswamy stadium.
Rajasthan Royals will now lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Edens Gardens on Tuesday. A win for either side boosts their chances of entering the playoffs of IPL 2018. Rajasthan Royals are currently standing at the fifth position in the table while Kolkata Knight Riders are in the fourth position.
