During the 53rd match of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Jaipur, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Umesh Yadav changed the course of the match after he picked two wickets in two balls.
Earlier Ajinkya Rahane, captain of Rajasthan Royals, had won the toss and chose to bat. Rajasthan Royals made three changes to their playing eleven, bring in Heinrich Klaasen, Shreyas Gopal and Ben Laughlin in place of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Anureet Singh. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bangalore fielded an unchanged playing eleven.
Opening the bowling alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, Umesh Yadav dismissed makeshift opener Jofra Archer (0) in his first over itself. Bowling his last over, the 14th of the innings, he affected two dismissals to bring back his team back into contention.
On the first ball of the over, Rahane’s attempt to heave the ball across the line saw him missing the ball altogether. The ball hit his back leg and would have gone on to hit the stumps, as shown in the replays after Rahane opted for a review. Citing the umpire’s call in mind, Rahane was adjourned out. He ended up scoring 33 (31) with the help of three fours. Watch the video:

On the penultimate delivery of the over, Yadav bowled a fuller length incoming delivery which seemed to hit Heinrich Klaasen in line with the stumps. The umpire ruled the decision in favour of the bowler. After the batsman chose to review the decision, it was evident from the replays that the ball had hit the inside part of Klaasen’s bat before hitting his pads.
