Despite all the injuries at the international level, Mohammed Shami has carved his way out as one of the best bowlers in the country. Since his inception into the game, first at the domestic level, and then at the international level, the talent was never an issue. However, some injuries have come in the way of the right-arm fast-medium bowler to halt his progress.

His skills, with both the new and the old ball, impressed the selectors and deceived the batsmen from the start. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Shami made his T20 debut from West Bengal in October 2010. He made his first-class debut against Assam in the following month. His List A debut came in the same season against Odisha at Agartala.

Having left an impression with his strong performances in front of the selectors, Shami was handed an ODI debut against Pakistan at Delhi in January 2013. He bowled a record four maiden overs in his maiden ODI match. In 49 ODIs, he has clinched 91 wickets at an average of 24.69, an economy rate of 5.46 and a strike rate of 27.

Continuous injuries haven’t restricted him to a mere limited-overs format bowler. He made his Test debut in the same year in November against West Indies at Kolkata. In 23 test matches, he has taken 79 wickets at an average of 32.48, an economy rate of 3.47 and a strike rate of 56.1. He has become India’s first-choice bowler in the format.
