The Indian cricket team is currently in a dismantled form as they have conceded an unassailable 1-3 lead in the ongoing five-match series to England with one game to go. A dead rubber will be played at Kennington Oval in London starts from September 7, but India has the chance to salvage some pride and get over the suffering they have faced in the previous four matches.

KL Rahul is having a rough outing as a batsman

Meanwhile, their team management seems to be tempted to try out the benched players in the final Test and the most likely candidate for the same is the 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw. In recent times, he hogged into the limelight and hence received a fair amount of success and he is now expected to replace KL Rahul, who hasn’t been able to make a mark in the series so far despite the fact that that he got to play each and every game in the series. However, former Indian opener Virender Sehwag reckons that more than Shaw, Rohit Sharma deserves an opportunity.

During a show on India TV, Sehwag said, “Prithvi Shaw might get a chance in the fifth Test. But I believe, Rohit deserves a chance before the young chap. India can try Rohit first and then call up Prithvi if he fails to deliver. They can keep Prithvi Shaw in the squad as a third opener. In that way, he’ll get to learn a lot in the presence of senior players.”

In 2018, Shaw hasn’t taken a wrong foot yet after leading the Indian U19 team to lift the World Cup. Thereafter, he was blessed with a lucrative contract for the Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 after which he was drafted into India A team, which played One Dayers and first-class matches against England Lions, Windies ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’, where he had a deferent outing.

Rohit has been a success in Test matches in India, however, hasn’t been able to continue the form in overseas conditions. He last donned the whites during India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year. Bearing in mind the disappointment India’s batsmen have dished out, it will be interesting to see whether Rohit gets an opportunity in the Australia Tests later this year or not.
