Indian premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is currently suffering from a hip injury because of which he was rested from the ongoing final Test against England at Kennington Oval in London. He sustained the injury during the third match at Trent Bridge in Nottingham and couldn’t bowl much in the first innings. Thereafter, he played the fourth Test at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

However, on a pitch, which helped the spinners, Ashwin strained to find his rhythm. Later, Virat Kohli, the Indian captain agreed that playing the previous match has aggravated his injury. The tweaker has now been dealt with another blow as he is set to miss his upcoming county stint with Worcestershire.

Worcestershire CEO Matt Rawnsley sounded dejected but wished him for a speedy recovery. He said, “It’s a shame Ravichandran Ashwin will not be able to return to us because he made such a big impact here in 2017 and was keen to come back. He has gone on record about how much he enjoyed it here last summer. But the injury he has been struggling with in the Test series against England means that it is not possible and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.”

The team is also likely to miss the services of New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill and updating about the same, the CEO said, “We are exploring our options for an overseas replacement for the final two Championship matches. The news is not good regarding Martin Guptill either. We had been in touch about whether there was a chance of him coming back for finals day.”

Last year, Ashwin played for four matches for the county and finished with 20 wickets. He also chipped in with useful knocks and notched 214 runs at an average of 42.80. The Tamil Nadu-born cricketer also helped them promote to the Division One of the championships in the ongoing season.
