Indian Test opener Murali Vijay has found his batting form as he has made his English County debut with a half-century.
After spending a poor tour in England, Indian Test opener Murali Vijay has recently signed with Essex County Cricket Club for the remainder County season. Making debut for them against Nottinghamshire in the Specsavers County Championship game (Division One) on this Monday, Vijay got his batting and scored 56 runs.
After the hosts Nottinghamshire won the toss and decided to bat first, they were bundled out for just 177 runs. Essex pacer Jamie Porter, who recently earned a call-up in the English Test squad in the ongoing five-match Test series but hasn’t made yet his international debut, bagged four wickets (4/50) while Matthew Quinn (3/37) and Matt Coles (3/62) got three wickets each in that innings.
In reply, Essex were also losing their wickets in the regular interval after the 56-run opening partnership between Nick Browne and the County debutant Murali Vijay. However, Vijay played an important role to give a good platform for his team Essex as the right-handed opening batsman scored 56 runs off 95 balls with 9 fours before getting out through the caught behind. His knock helped the team to score 133/5 at the stumps on day one.
The division one team Essex is currently at the fourth position on the points table with 121 points after four victories and four defeats.
Vijay had a poor experience in the recent English tour where he scored only 26 runs in four innings. He was dropped out from the playing XI in the third Test and later, he was dropped out from the squad for the last two Tests of the five-match away Test series.
Since making his international cricket debut, Indian cricketer Vijay has played 59 Tests, 17 ODIs and 9 T20Is where he has scored 3,933 runs, 339 runs and 169 respectively.
