The 35-year-old right-arm pacer has been selected in the upcoming three-match home ODI series against Zimbabwe. With this selection, the national selectors have pointed out that Steyn is under their next World Cup (2019 ICC Cricket World Cup) radar which is just around nine months to go.

Due to major fitness problem, Steyn hasn’t appeared in the limited-overs cricket since October 2016 which was the home five-match ODI series against Australia. After returning to the Test cricket in early this year, Steyn now is going to return in the ODI cricket.

After 14 months of injury, Steyn had returned in the international cricket in this early January during the first Test against India at Cape Town. However, his left heel got damaged on the day two of that Test match and that forced him to miss the cricket for some months.

After recovering his fitness again, Steyn signed for Hampshire in this season to return in the English County cricket. In this July, Steyn returned to the Test squad during the two-match away Test series in Sri Lanka, where he played both the game and picked up only two wickets.

Now, he is ready to return to the ODI cricket in the upcoming home ODI series against Zimbabwe. After he was selected for the upcoming ODI series, excited Steyn twitted, “Hello white ball my old friend…I’ve come to play with you again”.

Making his ODI debut in 2005, Steyn has played 116 ODIs where he has picked up 180 wickets with the average of 26.62. His best ODI bowling performance is 6/39 against Pakistan at Port Elizabeth on November 27, 2013. Apart from that, Steyn has also picked two more five-wicket hauls in his ODI career. Steyn’s best ODI bowling rank was the second position with 746 points.
