After beating the Sri Lankan cricket team by 91 runs in their opening game of the Asia Cup 2018, Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan has claimed that they want to win to show their abilities and talents.
Afghanistan scored 249 runs in 50 overs after deciding to bat first by winning the toss. The top-order batsmen controlled the innings very well from the beginning while the next batsmen played some small but important cameos to set a good fighting total on the board.
In reply, the Afghanistan bowlers were very tight and controlled from the beginning that helped them to bundle out the Sri Lankan team for just 158 runs.
After winning that game and qualifying for the next stage (Super Four), Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan credited everyone for that historic victory.
In the post-match presentation, Afghan said, “Very important game because Sri Lanka lost their first game. Credit to our batsmen, our openers, they played very well. Every batsman executed plans. Yesterday we spoke about partnerships. Very important thing for us.
“Credit to our fielders who fielded very well. We want to win, show our abilities and talent. When you want to play cricket just for winning, shows positive intent. We’ll see (about winning the Asia Cup). If we give good target on board, our spinners are bowling well. Nowadays our spinners are famous around the world.”

Meanwhile, the Player of the Match award winner Rahmat Shah claimed that the wicket was very good to bat. The right-handed no.3 batsman played a brilliant knock of 72 runs off 90 balls with 5 fours.
In the presentation ceremony, Shah said, “Wicket was very good to bat. Captain and coach gave me the plan to play straight. This match was very important for us. Very happy to be Man of the Match.”
