It might have happened 15 years ago but the memories are still alive and fresh in the minds of Indian fans. Back in those days, winning a Test match on foreign soil was nothing short of a luxury. Perhaps, it still is.

Having lost the first Test at Lord’s by 170 runs, India managed to draw the second one at Trent Bridge. However, it was in this match when they levelled the series. Sourav Ganguly, the then India captain, won the toss and chose to bat. India went on to score a mammoth 628-8 dec. in 180.1 overs.

Virender Sehwag, who scored 106 (183) at Trent Bridge, was dismissed cheaply in the seventh over. It was at this stage, when Sanjay Bangar and Rahul Dravid stitched a 170-run partnership. Bangar was out caught behind off Andrew Flintoff’s bowling on 68. Sachin Tendulkar came out to bat at No. 4 for India. Not for a moment did the run-flow was affected by the Bangar’s dismissal.

Dravid went on to score his 12th Test century. He ended up scoring 148 (307) with the help of 23 fours in a Man-of-the-Match performance.

Tendulkar scored his 30th test century, 193 (330), with the help of 19 fours & three sixes before being found wanted in front of the wickets off Ashley Giles.

Captain Ganguly also brought up his ninth Test century, 128 (167), with the help of 14 fours & three sixes.

In reply, England were bundled out on 273 in 89 overs. Alec Stewart was the highest-scorer for them in the first innings with his 78* (120). Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh picked three and Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar picked two pickets apiece. Following on, England were once again bowled out on 309 in 110.5 overs. Nasser Hussain’s 110 (194) went in vain as the home team lost the match. Kumble was once again the pick of the bowlers as he picked four wickets in the second innings.
