Former Indian Test specialist batsman VVS Laxman praised the Indian cricket team for their recent performances and also has been impressed with Rohit Sharma’s T20I captaincy.

After India won the 2018 Nidahas Trophy (T20I tri-series between the hosts Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh) and the 2018 Asia Cup under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, recently they won a 3-0 home T20I series against Windies. Laxman has been impressed with Sharma’s captaincy style, who leads the limited-overs Indian cricket team in Virat Kohli’s absence.

In his recent column for TOI, Laxman wrote, “I was again mightily impressed with Rohit’s captaincy. He is becoming a semi-regular at the job, especially in T20 cricket, and handled his troops admirably. He is proactive on the field and has clear plans but isn’t afraid to improvise.”

Laxman also praised Sharma’s batting who recently becomes the first batsman to hit four T20I centuries.

The former Indian cricketer added, “He also continued to bat beautifully, and his fourth T20I hundred in Lucknow was one for the ages. I have seen few batsmen combine power and elegance with such nonchalance.”

Meanwhile, since his international debut, Rishabh Pant is playing some impressive cricket and he has been fearless during the stroke-play. However, Laxman advised him to be careful as he has to understand that the strength can easily lead to his downfall due to careless.

Laxman wrote, “Pant must understand that what is his strength can easily lead to his downfall if he is not careful. While it is imperative to embrace natural freedom, he will be well advised to play high-percentage strokes, more so when he is adept at doing so.”

On the other hand, after some average performances, Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan returned to the form by playing a brilliant match-winning knock of 92 runs in the Chennai T20I on last Sunday (November 11). When India was under pressure during the chasing 182-run, Dhawan had a match-defining 130-run partnership with Pant for the third wicket that led the team to the last-ball victory.

Laxman wrote on Dhawan’s performance, “It was wonderful to see Shikhar get back among big runs ahead of the tour of Australia, and his partnership with young Rishabh Pant all but sealed the deal in Chennai.”

Laxman also lauded the Indian right-arm pacer Jasprit Bumrah as well as the left-arm chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav.

The 44-year-old wrote, “Jasprit Bumrah was excellent as ever while Kuldeep Yadav is clearly among the best bowlers in white-ball cricket. What was pleasing was his control, even as he unfurled his vast bag of tricks. That the Windies batsmen had little clue which way the ball was turning was the perfect reflection of Kuldeep’s mastery over his craft.”
