Yuvraj Singh has been a fighter both on and off the field. He is a survivor of one of the world’s deadliest diseases. Yet he came back on the field like a real fighter-never wanting to lose to his conditions.

It was during 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj not only received the man of the series award but was also suffering from cancer.  Yuvraj was inspired by former cyclist Lance Armstrong who achieved several records in his career as well and was also diagnosed with the same kind of a tumor in 1996.

Indian legend VVS Laxman praised Yuvraj Singh saying that it’s his struggles that have made him stronger over the years. He also applauded his come back innings last year against England where he scored 150 runs.

“One of the role models is my good friend Yuvraj Singh. It (his illness) was a shock to all of us. Because, I still remember, we were in England. This was in 2011. We could not believe that Yuvraj Singh, he played the World Cup with all the symptoms and he was the Man of the Series. Then he was detected with cancer and it came as a rude shock to all of us,” said Laxman at the launch of a book on cancer survivors.

According to Laxman if Yuvraj can do it, then even other people can fight against such adversities in life.

“You are the most flamboyant, the heartthrob of the country and you are detected with cancer. But, he showed an example to others. That, if Yuvraj Singh, the international cricketer can fight cancer, come back and win matches for the country…(others can also do it),” he said.

It was a gathering for the launching of the book ‘I am a survivor’ written by Vijay Anand Reddy. Yuvraj Singh and another cancer survivor Bollywood actress Monisha Koirala shared their views. VVS Laxman too was a guest and gave his insights.

Yuvraj Singh was not included in 15 man squad in the ongoing Sri Lanka series. According to sources, he failed to pass the fitness test.
