Having lost the first two Tests at Trent Bridge and Old Trafford, Pakistan staged a comeback in the third one with a four-wicket victory at Kennington Oval. Their chances of winning the final one and drawing the series appeared bright when they had restricted the opposition to 102-7 during the second session on Day 1. Having dismissed six English batsmen, Mohammad Amir was on fire.
However, what followed next was special and unimaginable. Stuart Broad came in to bat at No. 9 to accompany Jonathan Trott. The duo stitched a 334-run partnership and put England in a strong position. Broad scored a career-best 169 (297) with the help of 18 fours and a six. Not for a moment did it appear that he is not a regular batsman. On the other hand, Trott scored his third Test hundred, 184 (383), with the help of 19 fours. England went on to score 446-10 in 139.2 overs. Having picked up for wickets in England’s victory by an innings and 225 runs, Broad was adjourned as the Man of the Match.
