Two Innings Completed And 23 Wickets Fell On Day One Of A Ranji Trophy Game

A total of 23 wickets fell during the day one of the 2018/19 Ranji Trophy game (Plate Group) between Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh at Videocon Academy Ground (Kolkata). After ending the first and second innings, the third innings also has begun on the very first day of the game.

Arunachal Pradesh decided to field first after winning the toss of the match. Manipur was bundled out for just 85 runs in the very first session of the day where none of their batsmen reached the 20-run mark. Four batsmen reached the double-digit scores but the highest knock was just 19 runs by Thokchom Kishan Singh. Among the opposition bowlers, Deendyal Upadhyay (5/38) bagged five wickets while Licha Tehi (3/36) picked up three wickets.

In reply, Arunachal Pradesh was down to 7/3 at the lunch break. After that, Manipur wrapped them up for just 66 runs. Kshitiz Sharma (11) and Deendyal Upadhyay (10*) were the only two batsmen in that innings to reach the double-digit scores while the 28-year-old right-arm pacer Thokchom Kishan Singh (5/16) claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in the first-class career. Also, Bishworjit Konthoujam (4/27) took four wickets in that innings.

Starting their second innings with the 19-run lead, Manipur scored 67/2 at the tea break. A total of 22 wickets fell in the first two sessions of the game while only one more wicket fell during the third session of day one. At the end of the day, Manipur was batting on 192/3 with the lead of 211 runs. The opener Hrithik Kanojia remained not out on 79 runs while Priyojit Singh was batting on 18 runs. Skipper Yashpal Singh also played an important half-century knock as he scored 51 runs and provided a crucial 98-run partnership for the thirds wicket with Kanojia.

Among the Arunachal Pradesh bowlers, Licha Tehi (1/58), Deendyal Upadhyay (1/53) and Techi Doria (1/42) all have picked up one wicket each in the ongoing innings till the end of day one.
