Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri has been impressed hugely with the national team skipper Virat Kohli. After achieving the historic Test series victory in Australia, Shastri hugely praised Kohli for his captaincy skills.

After winning the four-match Test series against the hosts Australia by 2-1, which was India’s first ever Test series victory in Australia, Shastri claimed that it was his best achievement. Even he put it ahead of the 1983 Cricket World Cup victory, which was India’s first ever World Cup victory and Shastri was one of the members in that squad.

Now, Shastri praised the present Indian skipper Kohli as he claimed that he hadn’t seen Kohli-like passion for cricket in many other captains.

In an interview, Shastri told India Today, “I have seen very few international cricket captains have that kind of passion when one goes out in the middle. Yes, one’s personality can be different, some may be quiet, some may be reserved. But this guy is in your face. What it does I that it sends a message to the opposition, it sends a message to your dressing room.”

Shastri added that Kohli always wanted to give his best when he came on the field. The head coach feels that Kohli’s passion serves more than one role as it inspires the other cricketers too.

The former Indian cricket said, “As a player in the team, you want to emulate him, you want to get behind him. It makes the team more confident, the youngsters more confident. Players who come into the team and pick it up straight away. It makes a world of difference. That passion and the drive give confidence to the bowlers. It serves more than one role.

“When you see him on the field with that kind of passion, where he is so expressive.. it makes a world of difference.

“Every time he goes out to bat, the whole Australian team wants him to get out. But to take that kind of pressure and lead from the from… it takes some serious marbles.”
