During Sri Lanka’s tour of India in 2009, India chased down the then highest T20I total in the second T20I at Mohali. Sri Lanka had defeated India by 29 runs in the first T20I at Nagpur. After the winning the toss and opting to bat at Mohali, it seemed as if the same script would be repeated once again.
The Sri Lankan batsmen continued from where they left off at Nagpur. They ended up scoring 206-7 in 20 overs. Kumar Sangakkara, the then Sri Lanka captain, top-scored with 59 (31) with the help of eight fours and two sixes. On his 28th birthday, Yuvraj Singh was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he registered figures of 3-0-23-3.
In reply, Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag did not waste much time and played their shots right from the word go. On the last ball of the powerplay, Gambhir was run-out on 21, but, India had already scored 58 in six overs. MS Dhoni was promoted up the order and scored a vital 46 (28) with the help of three fours and two sixes.
In the 11th over, Sehwag got out on 64 (36). However, it was local-boy Yuvraj Singh, who scored an unbeaten 60 (25) to win the match for India. His innings was comprised of three fours and five sixes.
