There’s no doubt that IPL has a lot of fan liking and popularity. With England’s schedule to be almost over in 2018 while IPL comes in, a lot of England players are going to be available for the tournament for the next year.

Last year  Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Jason Roy and Tymal Mills made their debut and also got lots of buzz due to their bid price and also for their performances. Stokes and Mills emerged out to be the most priced players in the history of IPL ever. England players mostly miss the matches due to their international schedules but last year due to resting from matches against Ireland, Stokes got a chance to be a part for most of the games and thus received the most Valuable Player Of The Year Award.

The England captain, Joe Root, has voiced his liking to participate in the cash rich league in the upcoming year.

“It would be a great opportunity,” said Root. “Ultimately I’m an England player and that comes first. If things fall into place, who knows, but for now my main focus is doing the best I can when I play for England.”

Last year he couldn’t participate due to his family reasons. No England skipper ever got a chance to play for IPL, if Root gets too he would be the first of his kind. Though Root voiced his interest he also was aware of the tight schedule and his responsibilities as being the new test captain.

“There’s a lot of cricket to come in the rest of this year and before next year’s IPL starts,” Root told BBC Sport.

“I have to have those conversations with the right people, people like [England coach] Trevor Bayliss and [director of cricket] Andrew Strauss. I’d love to have the opportunity to go and play in it, but you have to have a realistic view,” he concluded.
