Iyer broke Rishabh Pant’s record for the highest individual score by an Indian in a T20 game. Pant had blasted 128* in an IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2018. However, Shreyas fell just short of Pant’s record for the fastest T20 century by an Indian. Pant had scored a 32-ball century in a Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 match against Himachal Pradesh last year, while Iyer on Thursday, reached his century off 37 balls – the fourth fastest T20 century by an Indian.

The world record for the fastest T20 century still stands with the self-proclaimed ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle, who had reached the milestone in 30 balls during an IPL match against Pune Warriors India in 2013.

Iyer smashed  15 sixes – five of those in a one over – which is the most by an Indian in a T20 match. He scored at a mind-boggling strike rate of 267.27. His unimaginable knock helped Mumbai post 258 for 4. At one stage during his knock, Mumbai looked set for even getting close to 300. But after his dismissal, Sikkim pulled things slightly. Mumbai could only manage to score 20 runs in their last 3 overs after Iyer departed.

Apart from Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav smashed 63 off 33 balls, hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. Indian cricketers Ajinkya Rahane and Prithvi Shaw disappointed while opening at the inning as Rahane was dismissed for 11 off 9 balls while Shaw hit a six and a four but was out for 10 off 4 balls.

Brief scores:

Mumbai 258 for 4 (Iyer 147, Yadav 63) beat Sikkim 104 for 7 (Sharma 32, Mulani 2/2) by 154 runs
