Despite being a cricketer, former legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar always promotes the variety of sports on every given opportunity. Now, he wants India to become a ‘Sports-Playing’ country from ‘Sports-Loving’ country, he said on Sunday. He also expressed his views over the scope of improvement in health among Indians.

“On a number of occasions I have mentioned that India is a sports-loving nation but not a sports-playing nation. That is why my aim is to transform India into a sports-playing nation,” he said, talking to reporters at a function in South Goa district.

Talking about the scope of improvement of health in India, he quoted “I know we all like to feel fit. But the statistics, the numbers, do not say so. There is plenty of room for improvement. That is the message I want to give to everyone.”

When Sachin started his career, it was very rare to see a family backing up their child to become a sports’ person. However, the scenario has changed drastically and several top athletes are coming from small Indian towns.

Talking about the same, the God of Cricket said “Parents are open-minded now. You have so many celebrated chefs and professional dancers. India is slowly, slowly changing. Today the choice is not just confined to whether you want to be a doctor or an engineer.”

Recently, Sachin was receiving a lot of backlash for his comments over Indo-Pak match at the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. India is scheduled to play Pakistan on June 16 in Manchester, but there is a group of people who want India to boycott Pakistan in the mega event. This is all an outcome of Pulwama terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, where Indian army lost their 45 CRPF troops.

Pakistan based Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed the responsibility of that attack and since then, the relation between India and Pakistan has reached a new low. Earlier, BCCI wrote a letter to ICC demanding to ban the nations who ‘emanate terrorism’. However, the International Cricket Council took a clear way and rejected BCCI’s appeal.
