During the toss, the SRH skipper, Bhuvneshwar Kumar revealed that they have made no changes to their squad. On the other hand, KXIp made a couple of changes to their playing XI Murugan Ashwin and Andrew Tye made way for Ankit Rajpoot and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. The change yielded benefits when Mujeeb dismissed Bairstow.

After Bairstow’s dismissal, David Warner added 49 runs for the 2nd over in almost 10 overs. They played very slow as they amassed just 27 runs in the powerplay overs. KXIP bowlers were bowling some tight lines which led to Vijay’s wicket as well. After his dismissal, Mohammad Nabi joined Warner and they both added just 24 runs for the 3rd wicket. During a partnership with Shankar, Waner took a slight ‘mankading’ dig at the KXIP skipper.

During the chase, Chris Gayle and KL Rahul failed to give the much-needed start to the hosts as they added just 18 runs for the first wicket as the big was dismissed by Rashid Khan in the fourth over itself. After that dismissal, Mayank Agarwal joined Rahul and both of them dominated the SRh bowlers for almost 15 over as they amassed as many as 114 runs for the second wicket as both of them scored the fifties.
