There is no doubt regarding the fact that the Indian opener, Rohit Sharma has reached different heights of success over the years, especially in the T20 format. Back in 2013, he led Mumbai Indians (MI) to their Indian Premier League (IPL) title after taking the captaincy reins from Ricky Ponting. Ever since then, there has been no looking back for him as he kept showing his class and caliber.
In 2015 and 2017, Sharma repeated the feat and guided his team to IPL glories. On Sunday, the history repeated itself as he again guided the franchise to their 4th IPL title by defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Final of the IPL 2019. MI won by a mere one run after the contest went down to the last over. Mumbai set a target of 150 in front of Chennai. But Shane Watson gave them an almighty scare, having scored 80 under pressure.

Nevertheless, veteran Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga came to the party as he helped MI to defend nine runs in the final over. Even as the Super Kings’ were left shell shocked at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, the MI bunch was deservingly over the moon.
Despite the fact that MI failed to reach the finals in the first five seasons of the IPL, they are now been considered as the most successful team in the IPL, having been champions for four times under Rohit’s leadership. After the jaw-dropping performance, Mumbai’s fans on Twitter now wants Rohit as the captain of the Indian T20I team. He has the experience of leading India in the shortest format.
A lot of times it has happened that Virat Kohli, India’s regular all-format skipper, rested himself in order to manage his workload. Subsequently, Rohit got his chance to show his mettle of leadership at the highest level and he hasn’t let his team down by any means. The supporters had no doubt that he is the appropriate candidate to become India’s full-time T20I captain.
