The young Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant has been going through a miserable form and the shot selection has been immensely criticized. He is being looked at as successor of the former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni. He is a destructive batsman but he as failed to do much on the majority of occasions at the highest level. Even most of the people are criticizing Pant for the same, the chief selector MSK Prasad has revealed that they are grooming backups for him.
Pant hasn’t grabbed his opportunities consistently in limited-overs cricket, especially after the World Cup. Moreover, with Dhoni expected to announce his retirement anytime in the near future, he remains the top choice for the selectors and the management but needs to be a bit more consistent. Even the selection committee is not intent on playing only Pant ahead of the T20 World Cup and are already looking for the backups.

The chief selector has some trust in the ability of Pant and has backed him to make a strong come back. During a chat with the Indian Express, he said, “I have already said that post World Cup we have been concentrating on the progress of Rishabh. We need to be patient with him, considering the immense talent that he possesses. We are monitoring the workload of Rishabh. Of course, we have been grooming backups across all formats.”
He further added, “We have the young KS Bharath doing well in the longer format for India A. We also have Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson doing well in the shorter formats for India ‘A’ and domestic cricket.”
Earlier, the Indian head coach, Ravi Shastri had warned Pant for his shot selection during the Caribbean tour. In recent times, the latter looks fully out of touch with his willow at the moment since the World Cup 2019 and has managed to get only four 30+ scores in his 19 T20I appearances.
