Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan became the first player to be included in The Hundred draft, but West Indies legend Chris Gayle wasn’t selected for the tournament. Rashid has a great international career so far, with 81 wickets which came at 12.03 in Twenty20 which made him ideal for this UK-based competition which featured 100 balls per innings. However, the 21-year-old became the first overall pick by the Trent Rockets on Sunday.

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell was the next to the Southern Brave, while Australia batsman Aaron Finch was the third player to the Leeds-based Northern Superchargers. However, Gayle was not among those players who were not eligible to be included as they failed to make their allotted price point and he will be absent from the competition.

Surprisingly, Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga and South Africa speedster Kagiso Rabada were also unpicked in the draft. The majority of England’s ODI players were selected to the teams before the draft. However, each team had two players to pick in the first round. The Welsh Fire included Australia players Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith in the team including West Indies spinner Sunil Narine. South Africa spinner Imran Tahir with Dane Vilas have included in Lancashire.

All-rounders Glenn Maxwell (London Spirit) and Liam Livingstone (Birmingham Phoenix) completed the first selections along with the Eoin Morgan and Moeen Ali respectively. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson was among those players who were included in round two, while the Spirit named Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi and Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir.

However, Round three started with the two overseas picks, Australia bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile named for the Rockets and Pakistan player Shadab Khan to the Brave.
