The Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI on Sunday decided to ask the approval of Supreme Court to reform on tenure for its office-bearers and named Jay Shah as their representative for the ICC chief executives’ committee meeting. The decisions to seek apex court’s approval is for the path of an extended stint for Ganguly.

“At the end of the day, the court will decide,” Ganguly said in a press conference after the AGM.

According to the current constitution, an office-bearer who has spent two three-year terms, either at the BCCI or at the state association, can go into a compulsory three-year cooling-off period. Ganguly, who took charge on October 23, has to leave the office next year but a dilution could see him still be there till 2024. Jay Shah, however, was named India’s representative to attend all the future meetings of the ICC’s chief executives committee.

“The Board is represented by Secretary at the ICC CEC, that’s the ICC rule,” Ganguly said. “We will form CAC and we met (Ombudsman) Justice D K Jain. Me and VVS (Laxman) were cleared, we need to get proper clarity on what is conflict and and what is not.”

“The clause stops everyone, that’s why we can’t make the CAC. Conflict (clause) should only be for us (the office-bearers),” he again added. “I don’t think Sachin and Laxman would want to come back.”

On the other hand, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly commented on MS Dhoni’s future as well.

“There is clarity, but certain things cannot be said on public platform,” Ganguly said. “There is absolute clarity on MS Dhoni and you’ll find out in time. We will see what happens, there’s enough time. Of course it will get clear,” Ganguly said in response to Shastri’s comments.

India are all set to take on West Indies in their upcoming series which are scheduled to begin from December 6.
