Team India leveled the three-match series against Australia in Rajkot on Friday, but injuries to openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have raised some concerns going into Sunday’s decider at the Chinnaswamy. Dhawan suffered an injury on his rib cage after delivery from Pat Cummins early in the 10th over of India’s innings. The ball hit the left-hander’s elbow and then crashed on to his rib cage.

Later, in the 43rd over of Australia’s chase, Rohit hurt his left shoulder while trying to prevent a four at the deep and had to go off the playing arena. The duo has only a day in between to recover for the series decider. It was later learned that Dhawan is “fine”, but there’s no “clarity” as far as Rohit is concerned.

Talking about the injuries, one of the team’s spokespersons said, “Rohit is getting the medical treatment from the physio, but we don’t have full clarity as of now… As for Shikhar, he is fine now.”

Rohit, in fact, has hurt his left shoulder on a few occasions in the past. However, the Indian skipper, Virat Kohli reckons the opener will be fit for the Super Sunday encounter.

“I asked Rohit briefly about the injury. It’s that left shoulder of his that has popped out a few times. There’s no tear, so hopefully, he should be back for the next game,” the skipper said at the post-match presentation.

The injuries aside, KL Rahul’s form will certainty keep the Indian team in a positive frame of mind. And for the man himself, he has no complaints about the batting order slotted to him.

Talking about the same, Kohli said, “Coming to those series in the last couple of months (versus Bangladesh, West Indies and Sri Lanka) and performing there augured well for me and I have been in decent form and I’m pretty confident of my skills..Batting at No.5 and playing like that for the team, it’s probably the best he has played at the international level.”
