IPL 2020: BCCI Decides To Host The All-star Match Post Season

The BCCI president, Sourav Ganguly had proposed a one-off all-star match that was meant to take place ahead of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but now it will be played after the tournament. The delay in the one-off all-star match was said to be due to operational reasons. The final date or venue for the match has not been decided yet.

The match was originally scheduled to be played three days before the IPL, which is scheduled to commence on March 29, but due to operational reasons, it is now set to be played after the tournament which ends on May 24. 

IPL Governing Council chairman Brijesh Patel confirmed the development, saying the two teams will be picked for the game based on the performances of the players in the tournament.

The all-star match was originally proposed by the Patel and found support from the BCCI. Ganguly had announced last month that an IPL All-Star game will take place for charity purpose. The IPL 2020 will kick off with the opener to be played between last editions two finalists Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Mumbai.

Meanwhile, players from all the eight teams will feature in the IPL 2020 All-Star match. According to reports, the two teams for the match are likely to be formed by combining players from four franchises. One team will have players from the teams located in the north and east of India, i.e. Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders.

The second team will have players from the franchises in the south and west, i.e. Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Mumbai Indians.
