Exactly 19 years ago, former and the then Australia captain, Mark Taylor became the fourth Australian batsman to score a triple hundred in Test matches. The last Australia batsman to score a triple hundred before Taylor was Bob Cowper when he scored 307 against England at Melbourne in 1966.

Taylor achieved the feat in the second Test of Australia’s tour of Pakistan in 1998. Having won the first Test by an innings and 99 runs at Rawalpindi, Taylor decided to bat first after winning the toss in this test at Peshawar.

Opening the batting with Michael Slater, he scored 334* (564) with the help of 32 fours and a six during an innings which lasted for two days. He refused to continue batting on Day 3 as he did not want to surpass Sir Donald Bradman’s highest Test score of 334 in Test matches. As a mark of respect, he declared the Australian innings overnight on 599-4 dec. in 174 overs.
