Sunil Joshi Becomes The New Chief Selector Of India

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Madan Lal, Rudra Pratap Singh, and Sulakshana Naik has finalized the replacements of national selectors MSK Prasad and Gagan Khoda. Former Indian cricketer Sunil Joshi has been appointed as the new chairman of selectors of the All-India Senior Selection Committee (Men) along with Harvinder Singh.

The Committee initially recommended the two aforementioned names for the selection panel and further recommended Joshi as the chief of the senior men’s selection committee. However, the CAC will review the candidates after a one-year period and make the recommendations to the BCCI.

Describing the same, a BCCI release read: “The CAC has recommended the following candidates for the senior men’s selection committee panel: Mr. Sunil Joshi and Mr. Harvinder Singh. The committee further recommended Mr. Sunil Joshi for the role of Chairman of the senior men’s selection committee. The CAC will review the candidates after a one-year period and make the recommendations to the BCCI. The two new members will join Mr. Devang Gandhi, Mr. Sarandeep Singh, and Mr. Jatin Paranjape, who will finish their term later this year, in the selection committee.”

The new selection committee already has their first task assigned as BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had earlier confirmed on Tuesday that they will have to pick the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa at home which begins from March 12. 

Ganguly had further explained, “New selection panel will pick the team for the South Africa series.”

Former India left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi, who represented Indian in 15 Tests and 69 ODIs, is well on the verge of becoming the chairman of the selection committee citing his coaching experience across the globe.

Talking about the new appointment, CAC member Madan Lal said, “They were very clear with their presentation and thought process.” The other candidates, who were shortlisted for the interviews before the CAC, are Venkatesh Prasad, Rajesh Chauhan, and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan.
