Former India player Aakash Chopra has praised Jasprit Bumrah for bowling an economical spell in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against South Africa. He added that Jasprit Bumrah was miserly when most other Indian bowlers were taken to the cleaners as well. Although Bumrah registered figures of 3/15 in four overs, South Africa registered an emphatic 76-run win.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “You say genius, I hear Bumrah. The guy is a genius. Jasprit Bumrah is different. If someone bowls 12 dot balls in four overs, it means he virtually bowled two maiden overs. He conceded 15 runs in total and picked up three wickets,” Chopra said. “I mean, how good is he. This was a game where the opposing team reached almost 190. Nearly 9.5 runs per over were scored, and this guy conceded 3.75 runs per over.”

However, Aakash Chopra stated that Jasprit Bumrah didn’t bowl the usually inexpensive middle overs and instead claimed two crucial wickets with the new ball.

“It’s not like he sneaked through by bowling in the middle overs. Arshdeep Singh bowled the first over, then he bowled the second over, and dismissed Quinton de Kock in that over, and after that, he dismissed Ryan Rickelton. He bowled two difficult powerplay overs and then came in the end. He bowled the 17th and 19th overs, and there too he picked up a wicket, and he was economical. He was giving singles. Bumrah is absolutely outstanding,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
