Aakash Chopra has raised a fair question around Mohammed Shami’s treatment in the wider cricket conversation, saying the veteran pacer deserves far more credit for the way he has continued to perform at the highest level. The 36-year-old fast bowler was outstanding for Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2026 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, finishing with superb figures of 2 for 9 in four overs.

His spell included 18 dot balls and the crucial wickets of Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head, two dismissals that set the tone for LSG’s control in the match. Mohammed Shami, who has been out of India’s national setup since the 2025 Champions Trophy, has kept producing strong performances across formats.
For Bengal in the 2025-26 domestic season, he has led the bowling attack with consistency and accuracy, once again showing why he remains one of the most experienced and reliable seamers in Indian cricket. Aakash Chopra felt that Shami’s recent IPL form should have been enough to trigger a louder response from selectors and fans alike.

“Are we giving Mohammad Shami enough credit, and when will we actually give him credit? It’s a big question. Why are we not celebrating him?” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
He further argued that performances in a tournament as competitive as the IPL should not go unnoticed.

“I had also said that everyone has to stand up and take notice if he does it in the IPL. Then you cannot say that the opposing team’s standard wasn’t that good. This is the most competitive league in the world,” he added.

Mohammed Shami’s four-over spell against Sunrisers Hyderabad was a reminder of his class, discipline, and ability to deliver in pressure situations. With more than 450 international wickets to his name, the seasoned quick continues to make a strong case for an India comeback through performances that remain as sharp as ever.
