Yashasvi Jaiswal’s explosive debut in Test cricket followed by his impactful performance in T20Is, along with Tilak Varma’s noteworthy contributions, have caught the attention of former Indian opener Aakash Chopra. Notably, both Jaiswal and Varma displayed their bowling skills during the T20I series against the West Indies. Tilak, the left-handed batter, even claimed the crucial wicket of Nicholas Pooran.

Observing this, Chopra suggested that India should leverage the bowling abilities of these young talents, adding that Washington Sundar should also be reintegrated into the T20I setup. Aakash Chopra emphasized the importance of having batters who can also contribute with the ball, a facet that seems lacking in the current Indian team. He proposed that Yashasvi and Tilak should be given more opportunities to bowl in matches.

In his social media post, Aakash Chopra wrote, “Considering that most of the current Indian batters don’t bowl even a couple of overs, Indian team must start pushing batters who do. Yashasvi-Tilak should be given a longer rope…and encouraged to bowl as often as possible. Washington has to be in India’s T20 scheme of things too.”

With the upcoming three-match T20I series against Ireland and the Asian Games, India has selected several young players. However, there is a dearth of batters who can contribute significantly with the ball. While Shahbaz Ahmed has potential, the presence of established left-arm orthodox bowlers like Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel could limit his opportunities.

Chopra also highlighted that Shivam Dube’s bowling skills have taken a backseat recently, despite his batting prowess. Venkatesh Iyer, another promising option, is recovering from injury and might need time to regain full bowling form. Deepak Hooda, who is skilled with off-spin, faced a setback after a challenging IPL season.

The former opener’s suggestion to utilize the bowling talents of Yashasvi and Tilak, combined with the reintegration of Washington Sundar, could provide India with a stronger and more versatile T20I squad. It remains to be seen if the team management takes heed of Chopra’s advice and capitalizes on the multifaceted abilities of these emerging players.
