Former India player turned commentator Aakash Chopra has shown uncertainty about Sanju Samson retaining his place in the Indian team’s playing XI for the final T20I against New Zealand, which will be played at Samson’s home ground. He added that Samson has failed in the first two T20Is, with his mode of dismissals being similar as well.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “I was thinking that Abhishek should get out because 200 runs had been scored, and if Abhishek hadn’t gotten out, he would have made it a one-sided match again, and our problem would never have been addressed. If Abhishek had stayed, it would have been a no-contest, and he got out on his first ball. Sanju got out almost similarly.”
“Sanju’s problem is that when he gets out, a pattern starts getting created. Against England, he was getting caught in the deep while playing pull shots, and here he got out driving two full balls, once at midwicket and once at mid-on. Rachin Ravindra took the catch both times. It is not a good story. Sanju Samson’s fans will be hoping that he will be playing in the last match in Thiruvananthapuram, Sanju’s home. I don’t know,” he further added.

However, Aakash Chopra said that Sanju Samson hasn’t been treated fairly and his fate might be decided based on his knocks as well.

“Certainly, what has happened with Sanju is not right. He was doing decently, had one bad series, and you dropped him down the order in the Asia Cup. Then he was dropped from the team (XI). Then he was played on and off, and then suddenly he was made to open. You will also decide his future in two or three innings. Not ideal, but this is where we are right now,” he said.
“Sanju Samson, please score runs, or else people will come to watch in Thiruvananthapuram, but might protest a little as well. That can happen because Sanju’s life goes like that many times. Everything is not fair. So, please score the runs in Guwahati. You have played here as the Rajasthan (Royals) captain as well. So you know the conditions. The pitch will be good here also and a lot of dew will come,” Aakash Chopra cocnluded.
