With IPL 2025 around the corner, former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has pinpointed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s lower middle order as a potential weakness. While SRH boasts a formidable top order, Chopra believes the lack of experience at No. 6 and No. 7 could be an issue, especially in high-pressure games.

Sunrisers, who finished as runners-up in IPL 2024, have retained key players like captain Pat Cummins, Heinrich Klaasen, Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, and Nitish Kumar Reddy. However, despite their efforts in the mega-auction, they were unable to significantly strengthen their middle order, leaving them slightly vulnerable.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that the team could struggle if their top five are dismissed early. “If the top order gets out for around 125-150 runs, SRH could find themselves in trouble. They might have to rely on Abhinav Manohar at No. 6, with options like Aniket Verma and Sachin Baby. Pat Cummins can bat, but if he’s at No. 7, it’s already one spot higher than where he ideally should be,” he explained.

Aakash Chopra further emphasized that expecting inexperienced Indian batters to handle crunch situations at No. 6 and No. 7 could be a challenge. “These positions are tough to bat in, and if your least experienced players are there, it could pose a problem,” he added.

Another key concern for SRH, according to Chopra, is Pat Cummins’ availability. The Australian skipper missed the Champions Trophy recently due to injury, and his fitness remains uncertain. “What’s the situation with Cummins’ injury? If he’s unavailable for part of the season, there could be a leadership void. Who steps up as captain?” Chopra questioned.

He suggested Heinrich Klaasen as a potential stand-in skipper if Cummins is ruled out, but noted that sudden leadership changes could unsettle the team. With these concerns looming, SRH will have to carefully navigate their squad dynamics to mount a strong IPL 2025 campaign.
