Aakash Chopra, former India opener, praised Rohit Sharma for his crucial innings in the ongoing first Test against West Indies at Windsor Park in Dominica. Rohit, serving as the Indian captain for the match, showcased his class with a patient knock of 103 runs off 221 deliveries, guiding India to a commanding position of 312/2 at stumps on Day 2. With Yashasvi Jaiswal unbeaten on 143* and Virat Kohli on 36*, India holds a substantial first-innings lead of 162 runs.
Chopra commended Rohit for his disciplined approach and analyzed his innings during his review of the second day’s play. He made an intriguing analogy to describe Rohit’s knock, comparing it to driving a Ferrari at a speed of only 30 kilometers per hour (kph).
In the recent video on his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra said, “Rohit Sharma is another beautiful story. He scored his 10th Test century. If you have to appreciate or understand what Rohit is doing, assume that you have a Ferrari car that runs at a speed of 200 kph and you are asked to drive it at a speed of 30 kph even though the road is clear.”
He further added, “You shouldn’t put it in cruise control but press the accelerator that much only. You won’t be able to stop yourself after the first 15-20 minutes. What Rohit is doing is that he is driving his Ferrari car at a speed of 30 kph and despite that, he is finding enjoyment in that.”
Chopra highlighted the transformation in Rohit Sharma’s game since he started opening the batting in Test cricket. The 36-year-old batsman has adapted well to the demands of the longer format, embracing a more conservative approach as an opener.
“That’s the most beautiful thing – the romance of playing Test cricket. This version of Rohit as an opener, which we witnessed in England and have been witnessing consistently since then, clearly shows that he has started enjoying it. This is not the typical Rohit Sharma we know, who effortlessly hits fours and sixes whenever he wants, against whomever he wants. But to play in this fashion, it once again emphasizes something extraordinary – Wow,” added Aakash Chopra, expressing his admiration for Rohit’s adaptability.
Rohit Sharma’s sublime innings has put India in a commanding position in the Test match. His ability to adjust his natural game and embrace the challenges of Test cricket demonstrates his versatility and determination. As the match progresses, all eyes will be on Rohit, Jaiswal, and Kohli as they aim to further consolidate India’s lead and set a formidable target for the West Indies to chase.
