Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, Faf du Plessis helped the team to finish third in the IPL 2022 after the franchise named him the successor of Virat Kohli. Kohli confirmed that he would step down as RCB captain following the 2021 IPL. He was, however, retained by RCB ahead of the last season.
Former Indian opener, Aakash Chopra said that the appointment of Du Plessis was a great call by the franchise and called the South African the only non-international active player whose stature has not gone down.

Describing the same in the latest video on Youtube, Aakash Chopra said, “This team has now got the habit of making the playoffs. They are doing extremely well for the last two-three years because their selections have been very good. They chose a solid captain, went after Faf du Plessis. He is the only non-international active player whose stature has not gone down at all.”
Chopra further said that RCB needed someone who can earn respect among fellow teammates and Du Plessis is a player who keeps the team ahead of himself. RCB roped in the South African for INR 7 crore during the 2022 auction. In his first year with RCB, Du Plessis became the franchise’s highest run-scorer with 468 runs.
Describing the same, Aakash Chopra said, “They went with the thinking that they need a captain who commands respect. He is that type of player who keeps the team ahead of himself. It was not easy to find a captain when Kohli gave up captaincy. It is not easy at all to find a captain for a team that already has a slightly alpha-male culture.”
Chopra also observed that the middle order doing well is the reason behind RCB’s consistency last season.

Describing the same, Aakash Chopra said, “When I see the overall team, I find it good. In the last two-three years, the success they got is because the middle order has started coming to the party – whether it is Glenn Maxwell, Rajat Patidar, or Dinesh Karthik the finisher.”
RCB will be commencing its campaign against Mumbai Indians on April 2 in Bengaluru.
