Former India player turned commentator Aakash Chopra has said that defending a total in dewy conditions could prove to be a weakness for India in the T20 World Cup 2026. He also recalled India losing the T20 World Cup 2016 semi-final against the West Indies in Mumbai as well.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, ‘Aakash Chopra,’ he said, “Is there any weakness? I think there is no weakness whatsoever. What could be a weakness? If we have to nitpick, that we need to find a weakness, it could be that the day dew comes and we are defending. That could be a potential weakness. In 2016, we lost a match against the West Indies at the Wankhede like that. That was the semi-final.”

“So at some point, if we get to bat first and score even 220, but after that, so much dew comes that the ball starts slipping from our hands, and then the match also slips, that is a possibility. A semi-final is at the Wankhede Stadium this time too. That is a potential banana skin, maybe, on which it’s possible to slip quite literally and figuratively,” he added.

However, Aakash Chopra also stated that India will have to bring in Sanju Samson into the playing XI if a replacement batter is required during the T20 World Cup 2026 as well.

“If I nitpick further, there is only one batter sitting outside in this team. That guy’s name is Sanju Samson. Since he doesn’t have form, if required at some point, you will have to bring an out-of-form batter into the team. Maybe a bit of a weakness. Is there any other weakness? It could be that everyone keeps hitting and suddenly they are 25/5. You live by the sword, you die by the sword. Since we are playing a brand of cricket like that, could there be a day when all of us collapse suddenly? There is a possibility, but as you have realized already, we are nitpicking a little,” Aakash Chopra concluded.
