Former India player Aakash Chopra feels that Hardik Pandya as a captain is growing well and maturing after Gujarat Titans’ swashbuckling win over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 on Tuesday as well. Hardik made headlines as a skipper since last season, having guided GT to the maiden title last season and has been proactive with his decisions since then. As quoted by MyKhel, he also opined that her captaincy seems to keep on improving and also praised him for his use of Mohit Sharma during the win over MI as well.
Aakash Chopra said: “Hardik’s captaincy just seems to keep improving. Mohit wasn’t playing well but he still sent him to bowl the final over and take crucial wickets even though he could’ve done that himself as a captain. He changed Mohit’s day from bad to good to maintain his confidence. I think Hardik Pandya as a captain is growing and maturing.”

Aakash Chopra also stated how Hardik Pandya was able to rectify a mistake he made in the loss to RR and how he changed it soon after against a win over MI. The former cricketer also said that the GT captain misjudged the due in the game vs RR and brought in Noor Ahmad late as well.

“It’s hard to win a match from a defensive position, we’ve seen this in the IPL. The point about captaincy was very salient. The game started with fast bowlers bowling quite often with discipline due to the movement of the ball,” Aakash Chopra concluded. “Soon after, spinners were introduced at the right time. They made an error last game in judging the dew and brought Noor at the end and Hetmyer punished him. He learned from that and ensured Noor’s overs were done earlier. Rashid and Noor, two spinners with five wickets.”
